The profound medium ((sa) madhya); the universal life essence, the absolute, the (sa) bhūtatathatā which expresses the unity of all things, i.e. the doctrine held by Tiantai as distinguished from the 別教 which holds the (sa) madhya doctrine but emphasizes the dichotomy of the 空 transcendental and 假 phenomenal.
